Tkach

Olga Tkach is a sociologist and grant-funded researcher at the Centre for Research on Ethnic Relations and Nationalism (CEREN), Swedish School of Social Science, University of Helsinki. She holds a PhD from the European University at St. Petersburg (2008) and the Title of Docent from the University of Eastern Finland (2018). She is an Associate Editor of the Nordic Journal of Migration Research. Tkach is now part of the project Life-breaking and Life-making: A research project on social reproduction and survival in times of collapse project (LIFEMAKE, Kone Foundation, 2023-2026). She has conducted ethnographic research in Abkhazia, Finland, Georgia, Norway, Russia and Scotland (UK), participated in more than 20 international projects and led six projects, including the most recent one, The Big Layered Cake: towards the conceptualization of neighborness (Kone Foundation, 2019-2023). Her research interests include migration; mobility inequalities; feminist and migration studies of home; housing and neighbor relations. She co-edited Making Bodies, Persons and Families. Normalising Reproductive Technologies in Russia, Switzerland and Germany (LIT Verlag, 2009) and four thematic special issues. Her work has appeared in Demokratizatsiya: The Journal of Post-Soviet Democratization; Laboratorium: Russian Review of Social Research; Nordic Journal of Migration Research; Social Inclusion; and Space and Culture.
