Dr JB Bazirake is an interdisciplinary scholar whose research spans migration, institutional transformation, and global development. His work critically examines forced displacement, asylum-seeking, and refugee governance, integrating insights from political science, peace studies, education, and policy analysis to address the complexities of migration in contemporary society. In "The Contemporary Global Refugee Crisis" (2017, Peace Review), he analyzes the unprecedented scale of displacement, highlighting the breakdown of asylum systems, the politicization of refugee governance, and the global inequalities driving forced migration. This research contributes to debates on international refugee protection, state responses, and institutional capacity in managing displacement. His co-authored chapter, "Forced Migration and Asylum Seeking" (2022, The Routledge Handbook of Global Development), challenges traditional humanitarian responses by advocating for a development-oriented approach to migration. This work expands the migration-development nexus, arguing that sustainable solutions require educational access, economic empowerment, and institutional capacity-building for both migrants and host communities. In "Volunteer Tourism among African Youth" (2015, International Journal of Organisational Diversity), Dr Bazirake examine how intra-African mobility and skill-sharing can provide alternative migration pathways for African youth. The study highlights how structured volunteerism fosters intercultural engagement, skill development, and community-building, offering new perspectives on migration beyond crisis narratives. Dr Bazirake's broader research engages with policy formulation, strategic planning, and institutional responses to migration challenges, drawing from my expertise in higher education, peacebuilding, and governance. Dr Bazirake is committed to transdisciplinary research that fosters inclusive, equitable, and development-driven migration policies, moving beyond crisis management toward structural transformation.
