Boese
I am a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at La Trobe University in Bundoora, Australia.
My research analyses migration, employment and social inequality in the context of policies and governance with a focus on Australia. I am interested in the intersections of culture and economy, and in how inequalities and precarity are (re)produced or challenged through regulations, social practices and cultural perspectives. Recent projects have focused on regional migration and settlement, migrants' social and spatial mobilities, precarious employment and migrant status, temporary migrants' and refugees' employment experiences, Australian migration and multiculturalism policies, discourse on refugees, and racialisation in different work contexts (including the night time economies in Manchester, hospitality, nursing and horticulture in Australia).
My publications include the book Becoming Australian (MUP, 2013) and the edited collection Critical Reflections on migration, ‘race’ and multiculturalism (Routledge, 2017) as well as articles in the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, , Ethnic and Racial Studies, the Journal of International Migration and Integration, Sociology and the Journal of Sociology, Labour & Industry.
