Hilal Alkan is a researcher based at Leibniz Zentrum Moderner Orient Berlin. She completed her PhD at the Open University, UK. She conducted extensive ethnographic research with informal neighborhood organizations providing initial assistance to migrants and refugees in Istanbul.
