Whilst universities are at the heart of local communities, they sometimes operate on a national or global scale. I am interested in the developmental and dynamic relationship between universities and wider society at each of these levels. More recently, my research has focused in particular on the role universities play in engaging with international actors and diverse communities, both on and off campus. Whilst my research is fundamentally centred on the study of higher education, it can be seen as bridging the gap with migration studies, and also as drawing upon insights from that field.
