Invited Assistant Professor at Iscte, I have been recently a post-doctoral researcher at the project: Experiences and expectations of return of new Portuguese emigrants: reintegration and mobilities. I am a sociologist and I hold a PhD degree in Sociology awarded by ISCTE-IUL, with a dissertation focused on Brazilian emigration to Portugal. My research interests have focused mostly on dimensions of international migration, starting with migration decision-making processes, migration policy, push-pull factors, migration networks, migration systems, return migration, and refugees and asylum seekers. I have been the executive coordinator at the (Portuguese) Emigration Observatory since its founding and until 2013; I have also been project coordinator International Organization for Migration in Lisbon (2004 and 2014) and researcher in several other projects. Among these, I highlighted the most recent: Empreender 2020 - The return of a prepared generation (2017) coordinated by Pedro Góis; a project for the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) about the integration and political participation of immigrants (2015), coordinated by CESIS; the project Support and Opposition do Migration in a Comparative Perspective, coordinated by João Carvalho (2017), CIES-IUL.
