Castillo Ayala

Claudia Castillo is a PhD student in Disability Studies at the University of Illinois Chicago. Her research focuses on the intersections of migration, race, and disability, examining how migration processes can be disabling and how systemic inequities affect immigrant communities. With a background in international relations, public policy, and diplomacy, she has over 15 years of experience working with Mexican migrant communities in the United States, bridging research, policy, and advocacy. She was selected for the IMISCOE PhD Academy, one of 15 worldwide. Claudia is a published author with a chapter in the UNAM anthology Nadie es ilegal. Mexicanas en Chicago (2025), a collection centering the experiences of Mexican migrant women in Chicago. She is co-coordinator of the Disability and Immigration Taskforce of Illinois (DITI), a coalition of over 70 member organizations working at the intersection of disability rights and immigrant justice.
