Ana Beatriz
Baselice Pelicioni

I am a PhD candidate in Sociology at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences and the Department of Sociology of Norms, Deviance and Social Control (University of Warsaw). My doctoral research investigates the Nakivale Refugee Settlement in Uganda, analysing how spatial and material aspects shape refugees’ sense of place in contexts of protracted displacement. My research interests centre on migration, identity, and community-building, with a particular focus on how people and places mutually constitute one another. I hold a Master’s degree in Mobility Studies from the University of Padua—where my thesis applied sentiment analysis to explore public discourses on migration in Brazil through Twitter data—and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from São Paulo State University (UNESP), where I examined labour migration and contemporary forms of slavery. Beyond my doctoral research, I am currently a member of the IMISCOE PhD Network Board, IMISCOE's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (DEIC), and the PhD representative of the Standing Committee on Arts, Culture and Migration (DIVCULT).
