Güneş Koç graduated from the Austrian High School St-Georgs Kolleg Istanbul in 1999. Koç completed her bachelor’s and master degree in Political Science at the Leopold Franzes University Innsbruck between 1999 and 2006. After her graduation, Koç wrote her doctorate thesis titled "Frauenmorde als Verdichtung der männlichen Gewalt. Ehrenmorde oder Frauenmorde: Politische Diskurse und politische Kämpfe in der Türkei" at the Department of Political Science with Prof. Dr. Eva Kreisky as her advisor and received her doctor phil. degree at the University of Vienna. Between 2013 and 2014, Koç worked at the International University Cyprus (CIU) in the Department of International Relations (English) as assistant professor. Since September 2014, Koç is working at Istanbul Arel University as assistant professor in the Department of International Relations (English). The academic research interests of Koç are gender studies, gender-based violence and migration. Koç is a member of the European Network against Gender and Violence and Section for Migration and Racism in Austria. Koç’s actual research is about Syrian refugee women in Turkey with focus on identity creation in the limbo. guenes.koc@uibk.ac.at
