Kolbaşı-Muyan
Assoc. Prof. Gizem Kolbaşı-Muyan is a member of the Department of International Relations at İzmir Katip Çelebi University. She received her PhD from Middle East Technical University in 2017 with her interdisciplinary (law, sociology and international relations) thesis on the interactions between family reunification and integration in the Netherlands. She has publications on family reunification, integration, social policy, citizenship studies and diaspora politics. Her main areas of interest are immigrant integration, family reunification, transnationalism, citizenship studies, diaspora politics, Turkey-EU Association Law, human rights law, and qualitative research methods. Together with Katharine Charsley, Helena Wray, and Lothar Smith, she is one of the guest editors of the special issue of Migration Studies on “Family Migration in Times of Crisis,” compiled in September 2023. Besides her academic research, she worked at the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities in Turkey as an expert and coordinator between 2011-2023. She gave undergraduate and graduate courses at Middle East Technical University between 2018 and 2020 .
