Klvanova
I am a sociologist specialized in the cultural sociology of migration in Central and Eastern Europe. I work as an assistant professor at Mendel university in Brno (Czechia) and I cooperate closely with the researchers from the Center for cultural sociology of migration at Masaryk university. My student internship in a refugee camp initiated a long-term research interest in migration, immigrant reception, processes of Othering and construction of belonging that I have studied through qualitative research methods. In 2023, I co-authored a book A Critical Cultural Sociological Exploration of Attitudes toward Migration in Czechia: What Lies Beneath the Fear of the Thirteenth Migrant (Lexington Books, co-authored with B.N.Jaworsky, I.Rapoš Božič, A.Synek Rétiová and J.Krotký). I am currently involved in a research project "'People like us?'Reverse sociology of migration in the Czech Republic" exploring the processes of Othering and boundary work from the perspective of people who have moved to Czechia from abroad.
