Tutku Ayhan is a Post-doctoral Fellow in International Security at IBEI. Before joining IBEI, she was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute for Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention at the State University of New York, Binghamton. Her research sits at the intersection of Feminist Security Studies and International Relations, examining the gendered dynamics of conflict, displacement, and governance through an intersectional lens. She studies post-conflict gender relations, forced migration and refugee governance, and sexual and gender-based violence, with a particular focus on how individuals and communities navigate violence, resilience, and claims to justice. Her recent work also engages with anti-gender politics and the contestation of gender norms in both national and transnational contexts. Methodologically, her research draws on multi-sited, fieldwork-based approaches among conflict-affected and displaced populations. Using in-depth interviews, ethnographic observation, and participatory methods, she examines how individuals experience and respond to violence across diverse settings, including camps, informal settlements, and urban contexts.
