Marianela obtained a BA in Sociology at the University of Salamanca (Spain). Marianela started her postgraduate education at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon, during that time she was also a Visiting Scholar at the Institute for the Study of International Migration of the Georgetown University.
