Rossella Schillaci is a visual anthropologist and a filmmaker. She has a Master in Visual Anthropology and a PhD in Digital Media with practice-based research in visual and multimodal anthropology connected to new media, obtained from the Nova University of Lisbon, in collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin. Her PhD project, the experimental VR doc Surfacing, has been selected by more than 100 festivals and exhibitions, winning the Best Practice Research prize from BAFTSS and the prize for Cultural Anthropology Costantino Nigra. She is currently a research fellow at the University of Genoa. Her work focuses on migration, women in prison, visual and multimodal anthropology, and appeared in films awarded in international film festivals, distributed by the Royal Anthropological Institute, and published in international journals.
