Livia Tomás is a postdoctoral researcher at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) in social work. Her current qualitative research focuses on the living and working conditions, as well as the mobility trajectories of migrants employed in the hospitality and catering industry in Switzerland. This project builds on her doctoral research at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Neuchâtel, where she studied transnational mobility patterns during retirement. Her dissertation explored how migration trajectories, as well as relational, economic, and climatic factors, shape transnational mobilities in later life. In addition to her postdoctoral position at the ZHAW, she serves as the coordinator of Module III (Evolving Regimes of (Im)Mobility in Times of Crisis) at the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) “On the Move”, where she promotes collaboration and exchange among the five research projects within the module. She is a qualitative researcher but has frequently contributed to mixed-methods and interdisciplinary projects.
