Chimbidzikai
Interdisciplinary sociologist and migration scholar working at the intersection of migration, religion, social class, development, and transnationalism in contemporary Africa. My research examines how mobile populations navigate uncertainty, aspiration, belonging, and social mobility within contexts of precarity and exclusion. Drawing on sociology, anthropology, migration studies, African studies, and the sociology of religion, I combine ethnographic inquiry with conceptual innovation to explore the moral and social dimensions of migration, citizenship, and future-making. PhD in Sociology (University of Göttingen, Germany and Leiden University, the Netherlands). Developed the concept of “hoping as coping” in my doctoral studies to explain how Zimbabwean Pentecostal migrants in South Africa sustain aspirations and negotiate uncertainty under conditions of legal insecurity and socio-economic precarity. Alongside my academic work, I have more than twenty years of experience leading research, public health, and social development programmes across Southern Africa, enabling me to bridge rigorous scholarship with policy-relevant inquiry
