My research on the intersection of visual culture, design and cultural history during the Cold War has recently focused on the visual and material qualities of illustrated magazines and their role in negotiating (inter)national belongings amongst emigre populations. I am particularly interested in the ways that what I call 'conscious graphic design', the juxtaposition of image and text and their entanglement amongst cultural producers and participants can encourage aesthetic and political shifts...
