Rapos Bozic, Ivana

Ivana
Rapos Bozic

Researcher and lecturer at the Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Social Studies at Masaryk University in Brno (CZ). Her professional interests encompass the topics of migration, civil society, and civically engaged art. For her Ph.D., she studied civically engaged festivals in three Central European cities (Brno, Bratislava, and Vienna) and showed how different styles of civic action of their organizers shape their use of festivals as tools for promoting inclusive urban environments in relation to migrants and ethnic minorities. In her research, she mostly relies on the perspective of cultural sociology (symbolic boundaries and boundary work, strong program in cultural sociology, styles of civic action, etc.) and utilizes qualitative research methods, such as in-depth and go-along interviews and critical focus groups. Her current research projects focus on boundary work performed by immigrant communities living in Czechia in relation to the locals as well as one another and the role of symbolic boundaries in shaping the political discourse of Czech-German international relations. Besides her academic activities, she works as an independent researcher and consultant and cooperates with a number of non-governmental organizations working in the field of migration, minority rights, and participatory urban planning.
