Dr. Diego Acosta is a leading international expert on International, European and comparative Migration law and a Professor of European and Migration Law at the University of Bristol in the UK. He is also the Director of the Global Chair on Migration and Human Rights at Nebrija University in Madrid, Spain. His work discusses Migration law as a central aspect of globalisation and analyses various processes of inclusion and exclusion and their profound implications for the rule of law in Europe, South America and other regions. He is the author of over 80 publications, including his most recognised monograph, titled “The National versus the Foreigner in South America. 200 Years of Migration and Citizenship Law” (Cambridge University Press, 2018). His presentFreemove Project is the first ever to systematically analise and compare free movement of people regimes globally. Beyond his academic contributions, Professor Acosta has offered expert guidance to law firms, parliaments, governments, and NGOs in numerous countries, such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Peru, Somalia, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Uruguay. He has been invited to present his legal insights to various entities, including the European Union, the African Union, the Organisation of American States, the Inter-American Development Bank, the International Organisation for Migration, and many other international organisations. He has also played a role in reports prepared by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants. Additionally, he has litigated several cases concerning EU citizenship and EU migration law at the European Court of Justice.
