Dr. Raquel Sáenz Ortiz's research examines how educators shape the ethnic identities of immigrant-origin youth, both positively and negatively. She has also researched culturally sustaining pedagogies for immigrant youth. She began her teaching career as a 6th grade Social Studies teacher in South Texas, across the border from Reynosa, México, where her father was raised.
