Media and Migration in the Baltic Sea Region

Principal investigator Hans-Ulrich Wagner (Principal Investigator ), Alina Laura Tiews (Principal Investigator )
Description
"The network project looks at the historical and today's role of the media in the Baltic Sea Region in light of current challenges and analyses historical lines of developments of migration processes. In 2017/18, the project is funded by the Landesforschungsförderung Hamburg [Hamburg Research Funding]. The project understands the Baltic Sea Region as a space for transnational communication, as a space of diverse and mutual relations as well as a space of migration with long historical traditions. We turn our attention towards the media as a central actor in the negotiations of related social topics such as population movements, territorial development, spatial construction, processes of communisation or the emergence of social identities and the related questions of belonging and exclusion. Using funds by the Landungsforschungsförderung Hamburg [Hamburg Research Funding], “Media and Migration in the Baltic Sea Region“ expands contacts to colleagues in the fields of communication and media science as well as media history and contemporary history of the universities in Lund, Aarhus and Jyväskylä systematically to a sustainable network of partner institutions in the Baltic Sea Region."
