Arsenio Dacosta holds a PhD in History from the University of Salamanca, and a PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED). He is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Salamanca; he has previously worked at the University of Alcalá and the UNED. He has carried out research and teaching stays in Buenos Aires, Havana, Oporto, Cuenca (Ecuador), Toulouse, Vila Real and Lisbon. His scientific concerns include the social construction of memory, and the discourses and practices of ethnic and cultural identification, particularly within the associations founded by Spanish emigrants in America. His latest works include Castellanos y leoneses en América: narración biográfica y prácticas de identificación (Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca, 2020) and the co-edition of the I Premio Memoria de la Emigración Española (Secretaría de Estado de Migraciones, Gobieno de España, 2023). He is co-principal investigator of the R&D project El asociacionismo de la emigración española en América a partir de la década de 1960: los casos de La Habana, Buenos Aires y Caracas (AEMIGRA1960).
