Schmidt
Ariana Schmidt is a PhD candidate in the School of International Service at American University. Her research examines urban refugee self-reliance, social networks, and livelihoods in contexts of protracted displacement, drawing on qualitative fieldwork conducted in Yaoundé, Cameroon. More broadly, her work explores refugee integration, forced migration, and humanitarian policy. Prior to beginning her doctoral studies, Ariana spent more than five years working in humanitarian response and international development, primarily in the Middle East and Europe. Her research is informed by both academic inquiry and practical experience supporting displaced populations.
