I am a statistical demographer working predominantly with migration data to better predict past and future movement patterns and gain a richer understanding of how migration varies by core demographic variables such as age, sex and education. Prior to joining the HKU Department of Sociology, I was a professor at the Asian Demographic Research Institute based at Shanghai University and a researcher at the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis in Austria. I have also worked as a consultant...

Global Migration Flows

Description
Global flow of people. Estimates for bilateral global migration flows between all countries in the world. Guy J. Abel and Nikola Sander (2014). Quantifying Global International Migration Flows. Science, 343 (6178). The bilateral flows between 196 countries are estimated from sequential stock tables. They are comparable across countries and capture the number of people who changed their country of residence over five-year periods. The estimates reflect migration transitions and thus cannot be compared to annual movements flow data published by United Nations and Eurostat. Global Migration Data Sheet: 1990 - 2010 Demographic changes from births, deaths and refugee movements are included in the estimates.
