Svitlana Odynets is a migration scholar who has been researching Ukrainian migration to Europe since 2012. Over the past decade, she has conducted extensive ethnographic fieldwork with Ukrainian migrants, refugees, and transnational families in a variety of settings across Europe. She is currently affiliated with Mid Sweden University and Vilnius University and is a researcher in a NordForsk-funded project on transnational care in migrant families. Within this project, she is responsible for fieldwork and the analysis of the experiences of people from Ukraine in Lithuania and Sweden. She also teaches two master's-level courses at Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Ukraine. Her research focuses on migration, transnational families and care, displacement, mobility, and knowledge production. Her two most recent projects were “Debordering Europe through the 2022 Ukrainian Refugee Crisis: Analysis of Responses in the UK, Poland and Romania” (Northumbria University, UK, 2023–2025) and “Forced Migrants from Ukraine in Transnational Europe – Between Personal Agency, Civil Society and the State: A Case of the Swedish Reception” (University of Gothenburg, Sweden). Since 2023, she has conducted approximately 150 interviews with displaced people from Ukraine, policymakers, and representatives of civil society organisations, while continuing regular research visits and ethnographic fieldwork in Ukraine.
