Rassismus, Fremdenfeindlichkeit und Diskriminierung

Rassismus, Fremdenfeindlichkeit und Diskriminierung können sich durch Migration bedingen. MigrantInnen und Nicht-MigrantInnen erleben entsprechende Entwicklungen und sind daran beteiligt. Rassismus beschreibt den Glauben an die Überlegenheit einer „Rasse“ (siehe Thema Race und ethnische Zugehörigkeit) gegenüber der anderen. Fremdenfeindlichkeit ist definiert als die Angst oder das Vorurteil gegenüber jemandem, der im nationalen, kulturellen, religiösen oder ethnischen Sinne als fremd oder „anders“ wahrgenommen wird. Diskriminierung bezieht sich auf die unterschiedliche Behandlung von (Gruppen von) Personen aufgrund eines zugeschriebenen oder wahrgenommenen Merkmals. Dies beinhaltet zumeist eine negative Behandlung wie Ausschluss oder Unterdrückung. Es kann aber auch die bevorzugte Behandlung einer (benachteiligten) Gruppe beinhalten.

Dieses Thema umfasst Studien zum Einfluss von Rassismus, Fremdenfeindlichkeit und Diskriminierung auf die (psychische) Gesundheit von MigrantInnen, Intersektionalität, Diskriminierung auf dem Arbeitsmarkt, die Rolle der Medien bei der Reproduktion dieser Phänomene sowie die Bekämpfung von Rassismus und Diskriminierung.

The Special Rapporteur's central observation was that "while Italian society is not marked by a profound phenomenon of racism, it is facing a disturbing trend of xenophobia and the development of manifestations of racism, primarily affecting the Sinti and Roma community, immigrants and asylum-seekers primarily of African origin but also from Eastern Europe, and the Muslim community"--p. 2.
