The MOBOUA project has involved 16 researchers in four countries of West Africa, including 9 parners in Abdou Moumouni (Niamey), Mali and Ouagadougou Universities. Its matter of research focuses on the fact that far more migrants move within the regional area than seek to leave it. It is therefore dissociated from other topics strictly related to the remittances sent by "migrants" who are settled in the North ; or to an increasing xenophobia trend in the African political context. The approach has enlightened analytically various prospectes (international, national, local) of the mobility process, and their space-time articulation. Arguments are particularly based on three types of measurement :
1. International Movements within West Africa
2. Intra-Urban residential and daily movements, extending the migration towards cities.
3. Interactions between the African migrants and other components, either migrant or non-migrant, of their society and settlements.
With this intention, the project has argued the internal dynamics and diversity of a "South, today"; it has analysed the population mobility and relocation by combining two methods in a multidisciplinary set of research: biographical and multigenerational investigations following the migrants, according to their respective trajectories; surveys led in significant sites of access to economic and social resources for rural and urban dwellers.
MOBOUA has thus capitalized a strong methodological investment on its field.
