Genre et Migration

Authors Amal YAZJI-YAKOUB
Description
Abstract Syrian legislation has moved only slowly towards the judicial and legal organization of human mobility. It still has no law on either migration or asylum. Moves were made on trafficking in persons, with the adoption of a presidential decree in 2010, not least because the number of female migrant domestic workers is increasing and a kind of white slavery is developing in Syria. Some administrative services are slowly becoming aware of the importance of migration and its impact on economy and society, but gender issues are ignored. No gender breakdown is given in the few figures and statistics related to the circulation of persons.
