Lynn De Smedt obtained a bachelor degree Applied Economics (KU Leuven, one semester at Cardiff Business School, Wales) and an extended master Business Economics (KU Leuven and one extra semester at Monash Business School, Australia). Since May 2018 she is working as a researcher on the topic Welfare state. Her first research assignment at HIVA concerned the satellite account of the social profit sector in Flanders. In addition, she is active in the Network Statistics FMSSFE (free movement of workers, social security coordination and fraud and error), set up by the European Commission, DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion. This network of experts collects and analyses statistics and administrative data on intra-European free movement of persons, European coordination of social security and the constraint of fraud and error. This project brings together a consortium of universities and research centres from 10 different Member States to promote the evidence basis on intra-EU posting through the collection and analysis of administrative micro-data. Furthermore, she is inolved in the INFO-POW project, which brings together research institutions from five EU Member States (Austria, Belgium, Italy, Slovakia, and Slovenia) as well as social partners. The overarching aim of this research project is to identify and assess challenges and needs of construction companies in accessing and using relevant information regarding the posting workers.
