Streamlining border procedures

Given the mission letters and hearings of the new Commissioners, the new European Pact on Migration and Asylum is likely to take decisions in the first half of 2020 that relate to mandatory and streamlined procedures at Europe's external borders. What do specific 'border procedures' look like where they exist in terms of their standards for disembarkation, registration, reception, detention and asylum/return procedures? What do researchers and practitioners find to be their goals, effectiveness and (un)intended consequences?
